Verizon Ventures Helps Bring Convenience to Auto Repair Services With New Portfolio YourMechanic

Tech startups are finding creative new ways to bring unseen levels of convenience to time-consuming and often times frustrating services. In today’s quick moving environment, consumers are becoming accustomed to accessing services through a smartphone and brought to their doorstep. Now this trend has caught on to the auto industry. We’ve been tuned-in to opportunities in the space, and recently invested in Urgent.ly, a roadside assistance app that allows drivers experiencing car issues to connect with the nearest available service provider and track on a map the real-time location, time of arrival, and contact information of that provider. Today, we’re excited to announce our investment in YourMechanic, the leading on-demand auto mechanic service that uses the same model to bring certified mechanics to customers’ homes.

Based in Mountain View, CA, YourMechanic was founded in 2012 with the goal of bringing convenience, affordability, and transparency to car maintenance. YourMechanic connects car owners with reputable mechanics who will perform over 500 services at the convenience of their home or office. Customers get an upfront price for services and book an appointment using the YourMechanic mobile app or website. App users are able to see the mechanic driving to them in real-time on a map. All mechanics are certified, fully insured, and background checked, and the customers and mechanics rate each other after the service is done. YourMechanic customers don’t have to deal with the hassle of driving or having their car towed to a service center, and avoid long wait times.

With the level of convenience that YourMechanic offers, one thing that can be overlooked is the peace of mind it provides. Transparent pricing hides nothing from the customer, and is on average 30 percent less expensive than traditional shops. The company also offers customers the opportunity to find and build relationships with great mechanics that they trust, which can be a huge relief.

YourMechanic currently operates in 700 U.S. cities and we look forward to helping the company expand its modern approach to auto service into new markets in the US and Canada.
