For the past several years, Verizon has worked closely with the incredible Techstars team to accelerate innovation across a wide range of functional areas including telematics and mobility, to name a few. So it was only natural we’d team up again with Techstars on their latest endeavor (and a passion of ours), the Techstars IoT Accelerator based in New York City, which is now open for submissions. Ten emerging IoT startups will be selected to participate in a 15 week, mentorship-driven program.
As we just revealed in a recent report on the state of the Internet of Things, IoT investments have grown dramatically over the past 12 months as a result of the number of connections in markets such as agriculture, smart cities, and smart energy growing by 33%, 43%, and 58%, respectively. The potential for IoT is massive: there are 150 million cars, 300 million utility meters and 1 million vineyard acres across the US that can hugely benefit from being connected. And we’re just getting started.
With the combination of connected IoT devices deployed throughout the global industrial infrastructure, big data collection and analysis techniques, and new task-focused integrated solutions, the Techstars IoT Accelerator will bring together 10 startups that are positioned to rewire the infrastructure of the future. Specific emphasis will be on connected enterprise, smart cities and energy, advanced manufacturing, health and wearables, logistics and automotive, VR, drones and robotics, agriculture and the connected home.
Along with partners PwC, GE and Bosch, our goal is to support the development of these innovations and the deployment of their solutions. We will also provide accelerator participants with valuable industry expertise, engineering brainpower, access to unique technology platforms and of course, mentorship. We can’t wait to get started and encourage you to learn more at techstars.com/programs/iot-program.
