Investing in SparkCognition: All Aboard for the AI-Powered Industrial IoT Revolution

If you’ve been following the Artificial Intelligence space, you may have heard about Austin-based startup SparkCognition. One of our favorite stories about the company was a pivotal moment for AI. The SparkCognition platform had an intelligent conversation with IBM’s Watson, and it went something like this:

SparkCognition: A ZmEu attack is brute forcing user administrative privileges by attacking a password ‘foobar.’  Who uses foobar as a default?

Watson: Cisco’s Apache server.

SparkCognition: How can I fix that?

Watson: Block port number 007.

SparkCognition: What other applications use that port?

Watson: None, go ahead and block it.

Pretty incredible.

Today, we’re excited to announce our investment in SparkCognition, a true artificial intelligence and machine learning innovator. The company has developed cutting-edge machine learning technology that models physical and virtual assets, and can continuously learn from data to derive automated, intelligent insights.

The company is gaining major traction in the IoT and cyber security verticals. SparkCognition’s technology is capable of harnessing real-time infrastructure data and learning from it continuously, allowing for more accurate risk mitigation and prevention policies to intervene and avert disasters. Likewise, the company’s cybersecurity centered solution analyzes structured and unstructured data and natural language sources to identify potential attacks in the IoT environment.

As Amir Husain, Founder and CEO of SparkCognition said, “We are already well on our way to an AI-powered Industrial IoT Revolution – where cognitive systems will truly augment human capabilities, but at machine speed and big data scale. Our partnerships with CME Ventures and Verizon Ventures further validate the work we are doing at SparkCognition and speak to the industry needs we are addressing within the Industrial IoT and cyber security markets.”

With the emergence of connected devices, cyber security becomes extremely important and solutions that can analyze security data are needed. We look forward to working with this innovative group as their powerful technology propels IoT and cyber security forward.
