Verizon Ventures Presents the Verizon Media Tech Venture Studio with R/GA

Being a part of the Ventures team means discovering and identifying technological breakthroughs that can have an immediate or strategic impact on Verizon. In March of this year, we announced the Verizon Media Tech Venture Studio, with R/GA to identify the best startups that represent the future of media and content.

I’m excited to announce that we have picked eight innovative companies to join the Studio, who are fostering the digital innovation across video creation and consumption, data analytics, sports and eSports, video delivery performance, machine learning and personalization.

The Media Tech Venture Studio was created to provide top notch startups with access to our advanced technology resources and invaluable experience by working closely with Verizon Ventures and Verizon’s digital media businesses on product and technology projects, as well as access to R/GA’s award-winning strategic marketing services. Participants will also be able to leverage Verizon’s and R/GA’s networks of investors, mentors, and global brand leaders.

Taking place at the new Alley, powered by Verizon, co-working space in New York City, these companies will have direct access to business leaders from across the organization such as Oath, Go90, VDMS, FiOS, Smart Cities, and Verizon Wireless. The program ends in mid-November with an exclusive demo-day event, where each startup will have the opportunity to present to Verizon executives, industry leaders, investors and press.

Companies were carefully chosen based on innovations that align specifically with Verizon’s media businesses. The companies include:

  • Ad Lightning eliminates bad ads and maximizes revenue for publishers and ad platforms

  • cognitiveVR enables brands, marketers and researchers to extract valuable insights from virtual and augmented reality experiences

  • GankStars is a mobile-first, multi-platform competitive eSports organization

  • Imposium automatically puts data into videos to make them feel like they were personally made for each user

  • ScoreStream is a crowdsourcing platform for local sports content

  • Streamroot enables content providers to increase the quality of online video while drastically improving the economics of OTT delivery

  • Transmit.Live is a new media broadcasting platform that simplifies live stream distribution, promotion, and measurement informed by data-driven insight to expand viewership and build loyal audiences

  • Vidrovr automatically analyzes companies’ large video collections to make content inside the videos discoverable.

One of Verizon Venture’s mandates is to be a conduit to the startup community and the Media Tech Venture Studio provides one of the best ways for the company to keep its fingers on the pulse of digital innovation and the changing ways consumers interact and engage with media. Congratulations and best of luck to this year’s Verizon’s Media Tech Studio cohort. I look forward to working with you.
