Global Corporate Venturing: Jeffrey Black Named a Rising Star And Chris Bartlett Speaks on VC and M&A

Verizon Ventures is excited to announce executive recognition by, and active engagement with, Global Corporate Venturing (GCV), a media publication and data provider focused on providing industry news and analytics as well as producing global events and awards. January has been a busy month!

Director Jeffrey Black has been named a 2019 “Rising Star” by GCV. Recognized in the fourth annual GCV awards program, this year’s Rising Stars represent the top one percent of the industry chosen from 100 corporate venturing units. Read Jeffrey’s full Rising Stars 2019 article here.

The Rising Stars are selected by the GVC team who research over 10,000 industry professionals across 2,000 corporate venturing units to identify individuals based on their deals, career development so far, being an heir apparent and being the glue in their unit.

Jeffrey’s interest in entrepreneurship driving innovation stems from his prior role at JP Morgan where he worked in investment banking. When Verizon started to expand its venture team, Jeffrey saw an opportunity to bring his expertise in corporate finance and structuring debt, equity, and M&A transactions to the company’s M&A Group. In this role, Jeffrey oversaw numerous transactions and strategic investments before being appointed to his current role at Verizon Ventures in 2012.

Verizon Ventures’ association with GCV extends beyond the Rising Star Awards. We have a strong presence at their summits as well, seeing these events as opportunities to connect with fellow corporate VCs to share ideas and debate industry developments.

In January, Chris Bartlett, Senior Vice President, Corporate Development & Head, Verizon Ventures, spoke at the Global Corporate Venturing & Innovation Summit on the panel “M&A: Portfolio Buy-And-Build” alongside William Taranto, President, Merck GHI, Merck and Nick Washburn, Senior Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer at Intel Capital. Chris discussed finding the balance between M&A and venture capital, exploring portfolio growth over time, managing IP across assets and encouraging inorganic growth to create global champions.

We’re thrilled to celebrate Jeffrey’s achievements and recognition as a Rising Star as well as Chris’ participation at GCV’s latest summit. Verizon Ventures is excited to see what the team does next!
